2008 Top Viral Videos
From TrendTV at Trendhunter.com – the Top 10 Viral videos of 2008.
YouTube has really accelerated the spread of infectious messages. People are pushing the limits (taste and technology) more than ever before, with the goal of becoming ‘viral’, and having everyone link to their video.
Trend Hunter TV picks the hottest viral videos in 2008. Few of these videos would ever make it onto mainstream television. And that’s the point.
Strong language and unfortunately a clip of Feist. Plus, more views than CNN ever could hope for.
But probably the best (or worst) viral video that has taken on a life of its own is the art of “Rick Rolling”. The aim is to do what ever it takes to get your friends, family, coworkers or anyone for that matter, to view Rick Astley’s cheesy, ‘80s pop music video, “Never Going to Give You Up.”
Here’s a sample – in the middle of the video Rick Astley tells you how he how he felt about the new fad of “Rick Rolling” on YouTube.
The fad took its name from a 4chan meme known as ‘duckrolling’, a prank in which someone would post a blind quote to a post allegedly relevant to a discussion that upon viewing would prove to be a non sequitur – specifically, an image of a duck on wheels,” according to Wikipedia.
“Similarly, in a rickroll a poster provides a link they claim is relevant to the topic at hand which actually takes any one who clicks it to the Rick Astley video.”
6.5 million hits in 9 months speaks for people’s fascination with Rick Rolling!

Almost 14 million views. Plus 70,492 comments.
Or, you can use the updated version and be a real trendsetter: (5 million views so far)
