I Guess We’re Black

According to this site:

The “socialist” label that Sen. John McCain and his GOP presidential running mate Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has long and very ugly historical roots.

…McCain and Palin have simply reached back in history to use an old code word for black. It set whites apart from those deemed unAmerican and those who could not be trusted during the communism scare.

Seems that we’ve grown so accustomed to the word, it now means NDP here in Canada.

Lewis Diuguid of the Kansas City Star has lost his mind.

Putting on the Ritz

Construction was halted on Vancouver’s premier property yesterday…

Advertising signage around the site was missing and construction trailers had been removed from the site.

Bob Rennie, who markets the project, said 50 per cent of the condominium units were pre-sold.

“I’ve just been instructed by Holborn (building’s developer) to make it clear that it is a suspension of construction until they go through redesign,” Rennie said Tuesday.

This makes it the tenth development canceled lately, causing a wee bit of concern in Vancouver’s booming high rise development.

But, as we all know, the Olympics are coming. Prices for condos should continue to rise.

Get out and buy before it’s too late.

(Ritz homes are priced from $2.5 – $10 million. Penthouse pricing available upon request)

We Usually Only Take Their Homeless

BC has been a little mad at Alberta ever since Ralph decided to give one-way tickets to Vancouver to all newcomers seeking welfare benefits – along with a list of how much better Vancouver’s benefits were.

Seems that Vancouver is now looking to Calgary for a better type of export.

A banner was seen flying high above Calgary’s skyline Tuesday reading, “Join Vancouver’s Finest”. It’s part of a public relations campaign paid for by the Vancouver Police Department to try and bolster its ranks for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

“It’s a trying time to hire new officers — the days when we’d get 1,000 applications just by running a cheesy ad are over — so now we have to go to extraordinary means.”

John Dooks, head of the Calgary Police Association, wasted no time in hammering the air-recruitment stunt.

“I think they’ll be hard-pressed to get any of our current members to leave Calgary, but this could be an opportunity for someone who wants to get into policing, but didn’t qualify for classes here, due to high standards,” said Dooks.

“They could go to Vancouver, learn about policing, and when they get good, they can come back here.”

The war continues…

Someone Needs To Bring Him Up To Speed

Back to some roots

French President Nicolas Sarkozy this weekend:

“Frankly, if someone would like to tell me that the world today needs an additional division, we do not have the same reading of the world,” Sarkozy said Friday in Quebec City.

We normally don’t care what foreign leaders say about our internal affairs, but this is different, because it comes from France. France’s view of Quebec has a mythical significance to separatists.

Except for one thing.

Quebec has used separation to ride through each recession the past 40 years – and have always succeeded doing so.

The reason the Bloc gained isn’t because they didn’t want Harper or the Liberals, or because of cuts to the arts… it’s because they can see what is coming up fast – a recession.

Quebec has rising unemployment, a slowing manufacturing base, and is one of the first provinces to feel a recession.

As a province that has always taken more than it’s fair share of transfer payments, the separation threat has always resulted in increased payments, contracts and public works projects – all funded by Canadians.

Sarkozy wasn’t informed of this strategy. Maybe now they’ll bring him up to speed.

Apple Tops Microsoft Again

Great approach in responding to Microsoft’s new $300 million ad campaign.

It also shows who wears the marketing crown.

Microsoft has now conceded that Vista is the equivalent of the previously failed version “Millennium” and now is talking Windows 7.

I think Vista could be saved with a few fixes – but the marketing message has already done it in.

Now if I could only find a good excuse to replace my MacBook with the new one… it’s irresistible.

Ready For The Influx?

The Self-Proclaimed One: Barack Hussein Obama

As John McCain catches up to – and passes – Obama (he’s within 3 points now), the far left in the USA will once again threaten to abandon their country and move to Canada. (Or at least until they find out we are really conservative.)

I am still optimistic that McCain will win, as the election is always decided by a few factors:

1) Left-wing voters are more vocal than active – especially when it comes to getting off their rear and voting.

2) The US election is always decided by the middle – or the independents. The middle has shifted to McCain and will continue to as they discover Obama’s real socialist plans for the US. Obama shifting positions to the center won’t help.

3) Accorn will continue to dog Obama until election day – not only the voter fraud, but also the role it played in creating the current financial crisis.

4) The Bradley effect. Named after Tom Bradley, who lost his election for California governor in 1982 despite a substantial lead in the polls, the Bradley effect says that black candidates will poll much stronger than the actual election results. When Colin Powell has to state it’s not about race, you know it is.

5) Obama has already decided he’s won. They are working feverishly with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid getting the transition team ready. Can you remember one thing Pelosi and Reid have actually been involved with that succeeded. Let’s call it the Pelosi/Reid effect.

6) The American media has gone all out to get Obama elected – another reason he won’t. Americans don’t like to be told what to do, and have a general mistrust of the media.

As the economic news continues to get worse, America will become less likely to try the Obama experiment and will sway over to McCain.

So roll out the welcome mat, and get ready for the threatened influx again.

Seems like Intrawest, the owner of Whistler Blackcomb and 10 other ski resorts, is being hit hard as it struggles with $1.68 Billion in debt that comes due October 23rd.

The London-based Financial Times broke the story.

How this could impact the Olympics is unknown. Maybe we’ll end up owning the hills?
