No, Thank You Chrysler.

$100,000 for this ad in The Wall Street Journal thanking taxpayers for their forced generosity.

thankyouamerica

Doug Power’s Response:

thankyouamerica-1

For those with not-so-good eyesite:

Chrysler, America was proud to “invest” in your company during these trying econoomic times. Sure, some of us are stuggling to pay our bills, heat our homes, feed and clothe our kids and lost our life savings after being bent over by Bernie Madhoff, but that is seconday to our concern for the comfort of the union bosses, various political careers and the well-being of auto executives.

Though Americans “invested” in Chrysler in the same way a fire hydrant outside the dog pound “invests” in a shower, our children will forever thank the government and Chrystler for saving the auto industy in a way that will ensure they’ll never be able to afford to buy your cars. What a well thought out plan.

P.S. – Since all Americans are Chrysler “investors” now, when might we expect that first dividend check?

Boxing Day Online Guide

Xbox Stuff Table

If you are one of the fortunate that still has a little room on your credit card, today is Boxing Day… here’s an easy way to take advantage of the specials online.

The site to start at is www.redflagdeals.com.  They even have a boxing week section.

Best Buy has flat screens on for American prices – although they tax you for a disposal fee in BC – even though you’re not going to be disposing the thing for a good 10 years.

The Canadian version of popular American online retailers also have specials – although Apple seems to have forgotten us.

We are set to get another 10 cm of the white stuff in Vancouver – so it’s the best (only) option.

I’m Selling Out For 100GB

December 26th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in environment

It feels Great!

Not sure how this will make me green, but what the hell. I can use a free 100GB for my backups.

From Pledge To Be Green:

For the next week, they will give away free lifetime memberships for 100GB of free file storage.  This blog will be one of the catalysts, but others are certain to get involved.  It’s simple.  Make a pledge.  That’s it!  Make a pledge to be more green in some way this year and FileDropper will give you the lifetime storage.

There are five ways to do it.

Select one of the green pledges below or write your own, then…

  1. Tweet it, or
  2. Post your pledge in your blog, or
  3. Post your pledge on YouTube, (the best videos will be added to this story), or
  4. Create a visual of your pledge and post it on Flickr, or
  5. Make your pledge however you want (as long as we can see, read, hear, or verify it in some way)

Once you’ve done that, post the link to it in the comments.  Then, go to Pledge Green, Store Files for Free and claim your account.  No strings.  No catches.  No charges.  Just free.  Make sure you help spread the word by linking your pledges to this post!

My pledge is: from this moment forward I promise not to make fun of Al Gore or Elizabeth May. I also pledge to eat more broccoli.

We all know what happens to New Year’s pledges, don’t we. ;)

Spamarama Time For Clinton’s Email List

December 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Tech Goodies

Another slick Clinton method of raising money. I’d love to see the opt-out reports.

She’s trying to do the right thing, and she’s working under a tight time frame. Hillary’s list is unique in the sense of the level of passion for her and the level of commitment to her. Peter Daou, the Clinton campaign’s former Internet director.

Some experts say buying access to a high-quality batch of several million addresses for a fundraising appeal would easily run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Clinton, still owes $6.3 million to vendors after her unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. She’s already written off $13.1 million in personal loans to her campaign, so any money raised now won’t go toward paying herself back.

And Clinton is facing a fundraising deadline: Because of federal ethics rules, she won’t be allowed to solicit campaign donations once she’s confirmed as secretary of state. A Clinton adviser said the e-mail list won’t be offered for rent after her confirmation.

A classic reworked to reflect current realities… tough year for the financial guys.

Don’t overlook those that desperately need our thoughts, prayers and lots of our money. If you have any money left over at the end of the year, please, please, give generously.

It really takes off around the 1 minute mark…

How The Santa Tracker Began

December 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Oddities

You’ve probably heard of the NORAD Santa tracker (and like me, used it for as long as you can remember). It’s a great way to have fun on Christmas Eve and keep the kids at bay when they start asking when Santa will be at your house.

The Santa Tracker got its start in 1955 when Sears misprinted a phone number to call Santa and kids everywhere got connected to the Continental Defense Command hotline.

Instead of being angry, CONAD workers gave kids updates of Santa’s progress around the world… CONRAD became NORAD, and a tradition was born.

The Santa tracker is here..

New Media Explained

December 24th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Tech Goodies

After posting the Facebook boob article, I got me thinking… why does social media all seem so empty? I have opened accounts on the common sites, and none has really engaged me the way blogging and RSS does.

Then I came across this video… it explains it all.

New Media Douchebags:

Funny thing is that we also have a douchebag syndrome in blogging.

After the best feminist blogawards controversy, I am sure we know who qualifies.
