Quit Backing Losers – Rick Santelli

February 20th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Taxes

Finally someone gets air time over the ridiculous plans of the Obama administration. The amazing part is that CNBC couldn’t censor it, as it was live.

On CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Feb. 19, Rick Santelli, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange floor reporter, along with several traders, expressed his outrage about President Barack Obama’s plan to “spread the wealth” for people that didn’t deserve it. He said a stimulus should go to people who live responsibly rather than some sort of housing bailout to people that lived irresponsibly.

“If you want the economy to work, maybe we should give these perks to people who will carry some water down the road.”

Amen.

CNBC big wigs must have flipped out over this one.

Gawker media and the left wing blogs try to play this down, but the comments show where the real sentiment lies.

Enough of “Peggy The Moocher” – oops, I may get accused of playing the race card.

Ot looks like Americans are waking up, and the protests are gaining steam…

Rebel Yell: Taxpayers Revolt Against Gimme-Mania

UPDATE: The White House on Friday dismissed a cable television reporter’s criticism of President Barack Obama’s housing bailout plan as the ranting of an individual who “doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs poked fun at Santelli by inviting him to come to the White House to read the details of Obama’s plan. “I’d be happy to buy him a cup of coffee,” Gibbs said. In a nod to Santelli’s caffeinated style, Gibbs then wryly added: “Decaf.”

OLYMPIC (LOC)

# 11. Titanic – $150 Million
On April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank on its maiden voyage and was considered to be the most luxurious ocean liner ever built. Over 1,500 people lost their lives when the ship ran into an iceberg and sunk in frigid waters. The ship cost $7 million to build ($150 million in today’s money)

# 10. Tanker Truck vs Bridge – $358 Million
On August 26, 2004, a car collided with a tanker truck containing 32,000 liters of fuel on the Wiehltal Bridge in Germany . The tanker crashed through the guardrail and fell 90 feet off the A4 Autobahn resulting in a huge explosion and fire which destroyed the load-bearing ability of the bridge. Temporary repairs cost $40 million and the cost to replace the bridge is estimated at $318 Million.

# 9. MetroLink Crash – $500 Million
On September 12, 2008, in what was one of the worst train crashes in California history, 25 people were killed when a Metrolink commuter train crashed head-on into a Union Pacific freight train in Los Angeles . It is thought that the Metrolink train may have run through a red signal while the conductor was busy text messaging.. Wrongful death lawsuits are expected to cause $500 million in losses for Metrolink.

# 8. B-2 Bomber Crash – $1.4 Billion
Here we have our first billion dollar accident (and we ‘ re only #7 on the list). This B-2 stealth bomber crashed shortly after taking off from an air base in Guam on February 23, 2008. Investigators blamed distorted data in the flight control computers caused by moisture in the system. This resulted in the aircraft making a sudden nose-up move which made the B-2 stall and crash. This was 1 of only 21 ever built and was the most expensive aviation accident in history. Both pilots were able to eject to safety.

# 7. Exxon Valdez – $2.5 Billion
The Exxon Valdez oil spill was not a large one in relation to the world ‘ s biggest oil spills, but it was a costly one due to the remote location of Prince William Sound (accessible only by helicopter and boat). On March 24, 1989, 10.8 million gallons of oil was spilled when the ship ‘ s master, Joseph Hazelwood, left the controls and the ship crashed into a Reef. The cleanup cost Exxon $2.5 billion. More »

Stimulus

A cartoon in the New York Post played off Monday’s rampage by a pet chimpanzee in Stamford, Connecticut, that left a woman severely mauled. Police ended up killing the chimp.

Sam Stein, a columnist for the site, wrote that “at its most benign, the cartoon suggests that the stimulus bill was so bad, monkeys may as well have written it.”

Al Sharpton called the New York Post’s cartoon “troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys.”

In a statement, Post Editor-in-Chief Col Allan said: “The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington’s efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist.”

So, in the future, there shall be no images of monkeys related to politics.

Although this didn’t seem to cause any outrage or concern in the past:

A Business That’s Up In BC

Viagra, Cialis

A new University of B.C. report on prescription drug spending reports that B.C. residents spend 25 per cent less per capita on medicine than the rest of Canada — except when it comes to prescription drugs for erectile dysfunction.

According to IMS Health Canada, which tracks prescription drug use, 242,875 prescriptions for erectile dysfunction drugs were given in B.C. last year.

The dollar value was $24.8 million.

B.C. per capita spending on erectile dysfunction drugs was 13 per cent higher than the national average.

What’s up with that?

Finally – The Shooter Gets Shot

February 17th, 2009 | 3 Comments | Posted in All about Vancouver

Keeping up the daily shooting trend:

CTV: Vancouver police have descended on the 6900 block of Fraser Street in East Vancouver after reports of a shooting that may have resulted from a case of mistaken identity.

According to unconfirmed report that is based on an interview with a witness, the incident began when two men knocked on the front door of a nearby house.

The two men stormed into the house and demanded to see someone.

Two brothers, who were at home at the time, told the men that whoever they were looking for didn’t live at that address.

The witness said the brothers were told to kneel down. The oldest brother was shot three times (but not fatally wounded), before one of the assailants ran away.

The younger brother gave chase, wrestled the gun from the fleeing man and shot him dead. The fate of the second assailant isn’t known.

According to the witness, the oldest brother has been rushed to hospital, but is expected to survive.

The younger brother, meanwhile, has been taken away in handcuffs.

If it really was a case of mistaken identity, they should give the brother a medal… the survivor has been identified by his family as 19-year old Aleem Mohammed

It’s gotten so bad, we now have our own google map of the shootings… here.

Regulate the Internet, CRTC told

Canadian actors made a case for new media funding at a hearing today before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

The performers helped kick off the first day of hearings on regulating online content by urging the CRTC to make Internet service providers follow the same rules as television and radio broadcasters and protect Canadian content online.

“This is a battle for the future. What we want is a place for Canadian storytellers and our stories,” said Richard Hardacre national president of ACTRA, the union representing 21,000 English-speaking artists across all media platforms. “We want to share our talents with Canadians and with global audiences. We need to get it right now. Tomorrow is too late.”

“We say, regulate broadcasting on the Internet, because it’s just another platform.”

What a crock ‘o sh*t… They don’t want to share their talents. They want to force their lack of talent on us. And have us pay for it by force.

Here’s a better idea – make stories that people want to hear. Quit subsidizing garbage like Little Mosque on the Prairie.

Say No To Al-Jazeera TV In Canada

February 17th, 2009 | 5 Comments | Posted in activists, Vancouver Weather Observations

From Al-Jazeera TV  – This piece of work fantasizes about terror attacks on the US – to polite cheers and laughter.

Kuwaiti Professor Abdallah Nafisi fantasizes about a biological attack at the White House and prays for the bombing of a nuclear plant on Lake Michigan.

He goes on to glorify terrorists and calls for terrorist acts.

Typical content from Al-Jazeera … and although some think having it available in Canada will bring good things – it’s a propaganda network for terror at best.

“Access to the live Al-Jazeera news feed will enhance Canadians’ broad picture of the international scene, will broadcast perspectives and news we can’t access now, and will increase our awareness of conflict from places North American and British outlets don’t go. And because the network likes to employ local reporters–or at least reporters well embedded in the community–there is an air of credibility that I trust. For Canadian journalists, I am optimistically (and mabye naively) imagining there will be work available for us to report from within our own borders for Al-Jazeera’s world-wide audience.

The CRTC should allow Al-Jazeera English to air in Canada, uncensored.”

I wonder how long they would be on the air before they are charged by our HRC for hate?
