How to Make Turkey Edible

December 24th, 2009 | 4 Comments | Posted in All about Vancouver

Chipotle Turkey

I hate turkey because it is so dry..I have been trying to convert my family to prime rib for special occasions, but they insist on Turkey.

So, if you must, here is the only way to roast a decent turkey:

Directions for an Upside-Down Turkey:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Rinse turkey and remove giblets. Place turkey upside (breast) down in a roasting pan. Insert 1/4 cup butter inside the turkey. Place remaining butter in several pieces around the turkey. Pour water into the pan. (Stuff it if you like).
  3. Cook covered in the preheated oven 3 to 3 1/2 hours until the internal temperature of the thigh has reached 180 degrees F (80 degrees C).

For the last 30-45 minutes, just turn it over… you’ll have a turkey that tastes like chicken.

Holiday Ideas For Atheists

Human Fund

I always feel sorry for atheists this time of year. They are missing out on the Christmas festivities and the sense of optimism that comes with it.

Thankfully the Costanzas shared an alternative to Christmas traditions and it looks like it has been soundly embraced.

To really throw a Festivus in style, get your pole here.

The main elements of Festivus from Wikipedia:

The Festivus Pole

The tradition begins with a bare aluminum pole, which Frank praises for its “very high strength-to-weight ratio.” During Festivus, an unadorned aluminum pole is displayed, apparently in opposition to the commercialization of highly decorated Christmas trees, and because the holiday’s creator, Frank Costanza, “find[s] tinsel distracting.”

Local customs vary and you may be able to decorate your pole with non-threatening plain decorations, or ordinary green garland.

The Airing of Grievances

At the Festivus dinner — a meal featuring non-holiday comfort food — each participant tells friends and family all of the instances where they disappointed him or her that year.

The Feats of Strength

The head of the family tests his or her strength against one participant of the head’s choosing. Festivus is not considered over until the head of the family has been pinned to the ground. A participant is allowed to decline to attempt to pin the head of the family only if they have something better to do instead.

This video will guide you through the tradition and the rituals of Festivus:

Carbon Taxes: BC Has Increased Greenhouse Gases

December 23rd, 2009 | 3 Comments | Posted in environment

$313.9/L

The BC government’s reason for slapping us with a carbon tax is proving to be dubious at best, and shows you cannot tax people to actually lower C02… but you do lower their standard of living.

B.C. only province with rising greenhouse gases

“This is one of the disturbing contradictions in the Campbell Liberals’ climate-change policy,” he said. “They’ve introduced targets, they’ve introduced a carbon tax — and yet we’re actually going in the wrong direction.”

Next up for us over-taxed BC residents – The HST.

Proving that Gordon Campbell has never met a tax he didn’t like.

A Recent Poll:

If another party other than the BC Liberals wins the next provincial election in 2013-in your opinion will that ‘new government’ have the ‘moral authority’ to rip up the H.S.T. deal with the Conservative federal government on behalf of British Columbians?(questions designed prior to federal Conservative government’s announcement to hold vote)

What Do These Papers All Have In Common?

The Paper Boy

The following major newspapers in the US filed for Chapter 11… can you spot the pattern?

- Heartland Publications LLC. – The owner of 23 daily newspapers and other publications in nine states, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday. It has newspapers — in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia

- Tribune Co. – The owner of the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, other daily newspapers and TV stations sought Chapter 11 protection in December 2008, burdened by $13 billion in debt.  Tribune isn’t expected to file a reorganization plan until at least February.

- Freedom Communications Holdings Inc. – On Sept. 1, the owner of The Orange County Register in California and dozens of other newspapers sought bankruptcy protection.

- Philadelphia Newspapers LLC – The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News. This hard-fought Chapter 11 case began in February.

- Sun-Times Media Group Inc. – The owner of the Chicago Sun-Times and suburban newspapers filed for bankruptcy protection in March. The sale was finalized in October after leaders of five unions reversed course and agreed to contract changes demanded by Tyree.

- Journal Register Co. – The owner of the New Haven (Conn.) Register and other daily newspapers emerged from bankruptcy protection Aug. 7. The company had listed $692 million in debt – the bulk held by JPMorgan Chase.

- Star Tribune Holdings Corp. – The Star Tribune in Minneapolis had a Jan. 15 bankruptcy filing. When the newspaper emerged from Chapter 11 on Sept. 28, $480 million of debt to senior lenders got reduced to about $100 million.  Company renamed Star Tribune Media Company LLC.

The newspapers need to wake up to the fact that they are turning off 50% of the readership through their far-left views.

Look for some major falls in 2010. New York Times now has less than a million circulation.

Be On The Lookout For Green Shoppers

Tree hugger

Somehow not so surprising

University of Toronto — Participants in a study who were deemed “green” conscious were found to cheat and steal more in later tests.

A reported study by the University of Toronto’s Rotman’s Business School, examined a sample of people who were asked to purchase goods at a grocery store.

Those who gathered more ‘green’ or environmentally friendly items were less likely to later share money with an anonymous recipient or more likely to lie or cheat on a subsequent quiz.

What the authors also found, however, was that simply being exposed to green products led to better ethical behaviour than did the act of purchasing green products, a phenomenon known as “priming.”
