Ann Coulter’s Thoughts on Canada

March 26th, 2010 | 2 Comments | Posted in activists

Great that Ann Coulter got to stop in Calgary – so she now knows the difference between a easterner and westerner. It’s why Calgary is the best city (and wealthiest) in Canada. Calgary’s tolerance and maturity did not go unnoticed in the US media. Not bad for a “redneck” town.

If you’ve ever had the chance to actually read one of her books, you’ll see that her case against the left is factual and is what drives them to the extreme.

Here’s Ann’s thoughts on Ottawa from her blog:

Since arriving in Canada I’ve been accused of thought crimes, threatened with criminal prosecution for speeches I hadn’t yet given, and denounced on the floor of the Parliament (which was nice because that one was on my “bucket list”).

Posters advertising my speech have been officially banned, while posters denouncing me are plastered all over the University of Ottawa campus. Elected officials have been prohibited from attending my speeches. Also, the local clothing stores are fresh out of brown shirts.

Welcome to Canada!

The provost of the University of Ottawa, average student IQ: 0, wrote to me — widely disseminating his letter to at least a half-dozen intermediaries before it reached me — in advance of my visit in order to recommend that I familiarize myself with Canada’s criminal laws regarding hate speech.

This marks the first time I’ve ever gotten hate mail for something I might do in the future.

Apparently Canadian law forbids “promoting hatred against any identifiable group,” which the provost, Francois A. Houle advised me, “would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges.”

I was given no specific examples of what words and phrases I couldn’t use, but I take it I’m not supposed to say, “F— you, Francois.”

While it was a relief to know that it is still permissible in Canada to promote hatred against unidentifiable groups, upon reading Francois’ letter, I suddenly realized that I had just been the victim of a hate crime! And it was committed by Francois A. Houle (French for “Frank A. Hole”).

What other speakers get a warning not to promote hatred? Did Francois A. Houle send a similarly worded letter to Israel-hater Omar Barghouti before he spoke last year at U of Ottawa? (“Ottawa”: Indian for “Land of the Bed-Wetters.”)

How about Angela Davis, Communist Party member and former Black Panther who spoke at the University of Zero just last month?

Or do only conservatives get letters admonishing them to be civil? Or — my suspicion — is it only conservative women who fuel Francois’ rage?

How about sending a letter to all Muslim speakers advising them to please bathe once a week while in Canada? Would that constitute a hate crime?

I’m sure Canada’s Human Rights Commission will get to the bottom of Francois’ strange warning to me, inasmuch as I will be filing a complaint with that august body, so I expect they will be reviewing every letter the university has sent to other speakers prior to their speeches to see if any of them were threatened with criminal prosecution.

Both writer Mark Steyn and editor Ezra Levant have been investigated by the Human Rights Commission for promoting hatred toward Muslims.

Levant’s alleged crime was to reprint the cartoons of Mohammed originally published in a Danish newspaper, leading practitioners of the Religion of Peace to engage in murderous violence across the globe. Steyn’s alleged crime was to publish an excerpt of his book, “America Alone” in Maclean’s magazine, in which he jauntily described Muslims as “hot for jihad.”

Both of them also flew jet airliners full of passengers into skyscrapers in lower Manhattan, resulting in thousands of deaths. No, wait — that was somebody else.

Curiously, however, there was no evidence that either the cartoons or the column did, in fact, incite hatred toward Muslims — nor was there the remotest possibility that they would.

By contrast, conservative speakers are regularly subjected to violent attacks on college campuses. Bill Kristol, Pat Buchanan, David Horowitz and I have all been the targets of infamous campus attacks.

That’s why the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute (a sponsor of my Canada speeches) and the Young America’s Foundation (a sponsor of many of my college speeches) don’t send conservatives to college campuses without a bodyguard.

You’d have to be a real A-Houle not to anticipate that accusing a conservative of “promoting hatred” prior to her arrival on a college campus would in actuality — not in liberal fantasies of terrified Muslims cowering in terror of Mark Steyn readers — incite real-world violence toward the conservative.

The university itself acknowledged that Francois’ letter was likely to provoke violence against me by demanding — long after my speech was scheduled, but immediately after Francois disseminated his letter — that my sponsors pony up more than $1,200 for extra security.

Also following Francois’ letter, the Ottawa University Student Federation met for 7 1/2 hours to hammer out a series of resolutions denouncing me. The resolutions included:

“Whereas Ann Coulter is a hateful woman;

“Whereas she has made hateful comments against GLBTQ, Muslims, Jews and women;

“Whereas she violates an unwritten code of ‘positive-space’;

“Be it resolved that the SFUO express its disapproval of having Ann Coulter speak at the University of Ottawa.”

At least the students didn’t waste 7 1/2 hours on something silly, like their studies.

At the risk of violating anyone’s positive space, what happened to Canada? How did the country that gave us Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd and Catherine O’Hara suddenly become a bunch of whining crybabies?

Want to hear my favorite Canadian joke? OK, here goes: Francois Houle! I never get tired of that one.

After Tuesday night, the hatred incited by Francois’ letter is no longer theoretical. The police called off my speech when the auditorium was surrounded by thousands of rioting liberals — screaming, blocking the entrance, throwing tables, demanding that my books be burned, and finally setting off the fire alarm.

Sadly, I missed the book burning because I never made it to the building.

But, reportedly, a Canadian crowd hasn’t been this excited since they opened a new Tim Hortons. Local reporters couldn’t make out what the crowd was chanting, but it was something about “Molson” and a “sled dog.”

I’ve given more than 100 college speeches, and not once has one of my speeches been shut down at any point. Even the pie-throwing incident at the University of Arizona didn’t break up the event. I said “Get them!”, the college Republicans got them, and then I continued with my rambling, hate-filled diatribe — I mean, my speech.

So we’ve run this experiment more than 100 times.

Only one college speech was ever met with so much mob violence that the police were forced to cancel it: The one that was preceded by a letter from the university provost accusing me of hate speech.

(To add insult to injury, Francois didn’t even plan to attend my speech because Tuesday is his bikini wax night.)

If a university official’s letter accusing a speaker of having a proclivity to commit speech crimes before she’s given the speech — which then leads to Facebook postings demanding that Ann Coulter be hurt, a massive riot and a police-ordered cancellation of the speech — is not hate speech, then there is no such thing as hate speech.

Either Francois goes to jail or the Human Rights Commission is a hoax and a fraud.

In other news.. Thank You Stephen Harper. A great first step to stamping out the real hate in Canada.

Earth Day

This video was pointed out to me… a earth day classic.

What are you doing for Earth Day?

I thought I’d show my appreciation to our earth.

First, I’m sending my wife on 400km trip, using our SUV, to see her parents in the Okanagon. I’ll make sure she is thankful for the gasoline she burns that funds all of our great social programs.

Then, I’ll turn all my lights on at home, and keep all the TVs on, so none of our criminal element takes advantage of the dark created by those that decide they can make a difference by turning theirs off. (If you have your Christmas lights still up, it might be a good idea to leave them on, so people can see their way around.)

Then I plan to BBQ a nice steak to thank mother nature for the cows she provides us with.

If it’s nice out, it might be a good night to have a campfire – nothing like a hot dog over the fire to make you appreciate mother nature.

She sure has been good to us by providing us with all the energy and food we need… be sure to use it and say thanks.

There’s a group that is taking hold that is also celebrating:

Prominent D.C.- Area Supporters Include: Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Institution, WMATA, Target, and  George Washington University Hospital; other Nationally Recognized Institutions With Events Planned During Human Achievement Hour Include Wal-Mart, New York Times, and United States Marine Corps

The new one-hour holiday, unknown prior to this press release, has already received overwhelming support from many of Washington, D.C.’s leading institutions. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, for example, tells CEI that it does not plan to shut down all of the city’s bus and rail lines for the “Earth Hour.” The Kennedy Center, likewise, has scheduled a performance of the long-running play Sheer Madness, a jazz concert, and a dance performance to coincide with the Human Achievement Hour. Washington, D.C.’s Target store, furthermore, will remain open until 10:00pm on the evening of the 28th. The Smithsonian Institution also plans a film showing that will extend into Human Achievement Hour.

“We salute the people who keep the lights on and produce the energy that helps make human achievement possible,” says Myron Ebell, CEI’s Director of Energy and Global Warming Policy.

Other organizations around the world and the nation have planned events in support of the new holiday. For example, The United State Marine Corps will continue its combat and humanitarian operations around the world during Human Achievement Hour. The New York Times confirms that it intends to put out a paper on March 29th, 2009 (preparation and printing for that issue will take place during Human Achievement Hour). At least 30,000 movies will also be screened in celebration of Human Achievement Hour. Hospital emergency and operating rooms, likewise, will remain open in Washington and in the rest of the country. Nearly all of the nation’s Wal-Mart locations will also be open during Human Achievement Hour.

Those wishing to celebrate Earth Hour, however, do not need to take part in Human Achievement Hour. “Earth Hour is a viable alternative to human achievement hour,” says CEI Senior Fellow Eli Lehrer. “Those who wish to celebrate Earth Hour should sit in the dark, turn off the heat, and breathe as little as possible.”

Happy Earth Day!

With Earth Day around the corner, it’s great to know that global warming can be beat.

Maybe Iran is just trying to save the world.

Global Warming / Nuclear Winter

The dust kicked up into the atmosphere after a big enough nuclear blast could offer enough protection from sunlight to reverse the effects of global warming. Of course, it could also plunge us into a new ice age if too much sunlight is blocked.

From Ask A Scientist

Author: John Hawley

Text: If we do not do enough to thwart Global Warming, and the oceans start to rise, could we use the effects of Nuclear Winter to offset global warming? Of course we would have to be careful about radiation and radioactive contamination by using the cleanest possible nuclear devices.

Author: Mark Fernau

Text: This is a good question, but fortunately you do not have to use nuclear bombs to put the dust and particles in the atmosphere. The idea is to reflect sunlight back to space and you could do this by putting lots of sulfur particles into the atmosphere. You do not need dust from nuclear explosions, you could just use rockets or supersonic transports or whatever to get the sulfate particles up to the correct height in the atmosphere.

The real problem with this is not nuclear winter and radiation, it is that the human race would be playing G What happens if you miscalculate and put too much reflecting material into the atmosphere and send the Earth not only into nuclear winter but into an ice age? I am not sure I would want to risk it. Another idea I like is to have every one in the world paint their roofs and driveways white. Much easier than the first approach although more complicated because of all the clouds and stuff that would be in the way to mess up your calculation of how much white is needed. Cheers,

Author: Don Libby

Text: Actually, some scientists (e.g. Reid Bryson at the University of Wisconsin) believe that there is sufficient dust in the atmosphere already to effectively counter any global warming effect from C02. Since the “nuclear winter” effect is due to the huge clouds of debris thrown up into the atmosphere, we could think of all the dust that has already (and is still being) thrown up by less drastic human and natural activities as providing some of this sheltering effect. Good thinking, a global parasol might be helpful. I wonder if we could not provide the shade with less potential harm than nuclear explosions would cause, such as putting a huge tarpaulin into earth orbit to create a solar eclipse.

Food for thought. It may not be as bad as they want us to believe.

Why Canada Needs To Address Free Speech Now

March 23rd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in activists

A reminder for those that selectively define who has the right to speak…  from Doug Christie.

We are in a time when free speech is rapidly being taken away. The ones who are taking it away are also at risk. If we don’t wake up to this soon, we’ll find ourselves in a world with only one view. And we know what that view is.

Why is only the people to the right of center that realize this?

Coulter’s Ottawa speech cancelled

American right-winger Ann Coulter’s speech at the University of Ottawa was cancelled Tuesday night due to security concerns after thousands protested outside the venue.

A spokesman for the group that organized the event said they were fears for Coulter’s well-being after about two thousand people gathered outside the venue to protest her presence there.

Although the event was cancelled, organizers said her Canadian tour will continue, wrapping up at the University of Calgary on Thursday.

Great quote by Ann:

“It’s at the absolute bush league, bottom of the barrel schools that you get the worst treatment and yet and still I’ve never seen this before,” she said.

“I’m guessing the scores to get into the University of Ottawa are not very challenging.”

And Dennis Miller on free speech in college… We need to fight for this as as today shows, we aren’t far off from having it taken away.

Hey Ann Coulter – Ask Canada This.

March 22nd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in All about Vancouver

Ann Coulter In CanadaAnn Coulter is speaking in Canada this week, and a senior University of Ottawa administrator has warned her to use “restraint, respect and consideration” when speaking at the school.

In an email sent to Ms. Coulter on Friday, a copy of which has been obtained by the National Post, Mr. Houle wrote: “Our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or “free speech”) in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here.”

He continued, “Promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges.”

This law apparently excludes our Heather Malick.

This has been applied to include anything insulting to the poor, our multi-generational welfare class predominantly in the eastern third of Canada, our postal workers, women of course, any identifiable race except white, and the french.

So as not to be hateful.. just ask:

Why do the French want to leave Canada so badly? Is it they are tired of all the money we throw at them after every tantrum? Or is because we threaten their culture – ignoring the 20-30 million just south of their new country. It’s one of the Canadian puzzles.

Why do we lay back for every tax that is slapped on us? Remember what was said when GST was dropped? My mother-in-law even lamented over the removal of the toll on the Coquihalla after it was paid for… “they should just keep taking the money”. Not to mention the wide array of enviro taxes, stacked on top of “HST” and deposits, and anything else they can slip in. We never met a tax we couldn’t love.

Ask how many have family doctors? How long does it takes to get results from tests? How much does free health care really cost? How long to get an aged parent looked after? Does the system actually drag things out to save money with your aged parent? This type of questioning could get you run out of the country though.

Why do we put up with state-run media. Even the Chinese complain about theirs. We seem to enjoy paying ours so they can keep our nasty anchors that no one watches on the air.. these folks would have been retired 20 years ago anywhere else. Yes, we have to pay to watch Fox News. CNN is free.

Have we noticed that the entrepreneurial spirit – the one that brings wealth, has been effectively bred out of our kids? When the state looks after you, tells you what not to do, you kind of lose incentive to become something great. (We have employment insurance – go figure.) And, if we do find great success, where is the first place we move to?

And don’t forget to ask what’s up with that David Suzuki guy? Was he appointed a czar? If you want to see Al Gore in 20 years – we have his clone. Except he has made his living by not ever getting elected.

All of the above are respectful and shouldn’t get you charged. Welcome to Canadian leftwing-approved free speech.

But you may want to watch this video of the last controversial American that came here.. they stripped it off of YouTube… here’s the last video there that is allowed, as it doesn’t allow us to embed or share the hate.

Welcome to Canada.

The Burka debate in Canada

The case of  burkha rights in Quebec…

Two solitudes and the niqab

The case of Naema Ahmed, the niqab-wearing woman who was expelled from a French-language class in Montreal, has turned into a cause célèbre across the country. It is a fascinating story about reasonable accommodation, competing rights and where we ought to draw the line on tolerance in a democratic society.

Naema Ahmed, a 29-year-old pharmacist from Egypt, joined a language class for immigrants last August. She insisted on wearing a face veil and she sat at the back of the class so that the men wouldn’t be able to see her. (There were three men in the class of 20). For private instruction, she would retreat to a corner with the female instructor.

Tensions reportedly mounted in the class, which was also designed to help integrate the students into Quebec society. The next part of the course required the students to sit around a U-shaped table and converse. She didn’t want to do it because of the men. The school couldn’t guarantee her another female instructor. It also decided she couldn’t be taught properly unless the instructor could see her mouth. So it asked her to leave. “We tried certain arrangements, but the demands just became too great,” said the school’s head, Paul-Émile Bourque.

Some time after that, Ms. Ahmed filed a complaint with Quebec’s human-rights commission. She also joined another language class. This week, she was called out of class again and invited to either remove her veil or leave. She left.

“There is no ambiguity about this question,” said Quebec’s immigration minister, Yolande James. “If you want to [attend] our classes, if you want to integrate into Quebec society, here are our values. We want to see your face.”

Meantime, in the other solitude, Quebec authorities were widely being compared to the Taliban.

“[T]hrowing women out of school … sounds like something that happens in the wilder reaches of Kandahar,” opined the Montreal Gazette.

“What part of the word ‘freedom’ does Quebec not understand?” wondered Naomi Lakritz in the Calgary Herald. Quebec, she said, “is fast becoming the most hostile province in Canada for anyone of a minority culture or religion.” The Winnipeg Free Press observed that “the Canadianization of Naema Ahmed has been sadly set back.” (Others might maintain that her decision to lodge a human-rights complaint shows she’s coming along quite nicely). And The Globe and Mail said, “It may be practised in some Arab and west Asian countries, such as the former Taliban regime in Afghanistan, but empowering state agents to enforce dress codes and bar the education of women is hitherto unknown in Canada.”

I have always been for more of a melting pot situation for immigrants… than with the Canadian method of encouraging immigrants to hold on to their country’s heritage. Our method encourages ghettos and isolated communities.

The reason you move to Canada (or any country for that matter) is that you appreciate the country’s values and opportunities. If you want everything in your new country to be the same as your home country, you’ve got to ask why did you move? What happens when women wear something offensive (shorts?) in a Muslim country. (Yes a burkha or niqab is offensive.)

You’d think that women moving to Canada would appreciate the hard-fought rights that our women enjoy… like showing your face in public.

Shoot The Messenger

Winnipeg Free Press:

Students who filmed two suspended teachers performing a lap dance at Churchill High School and posted the event online could face serious disciplinary action.

The students appear to have violated Winnipeg School Division’s zero-tolerance policies forbidding use of cellphone cameras and other devices in schools.

School board chairwoman Jackie Sneesby refused to rule out punishment for the students Monday.

“We haven’t finished the investigation. It (disciplining students) hasn’t been discussed yet,” Sneesby said in an interview. “It isn’t anything we would do without thinking about it.”

Teachers Chrystie Fitchner and Adeil Ahmed have been suspended with pay after being filmed performing a lap dance — including simulated oral sex — at a school spirit event in the school gym two weeks ago.

Sneesby would only say the senior administration’s investigation was not completed yet.

Great case of diverting the attention to the victims.
