Yes, the Dems are back in power in both legislative chambers, the executive branch, and effectively in the courts. The effect will resemble the recession-inducing properties of an NDP provincial government, but on a much larger scale. One thing you missed; protectionism of the 1970s and 1980s type that led Canada to seek a free trade agreement will be back, and it will be turbocharged by media pumping out the meme that trading freely means “exporting our jobs” like the mean Republicans used to do. Look out for repeats of the Super 301 efforts of the 1980s where border-state Democrats block out Canadian grain, oil, gas, et cetera. Also look for an effort to cancel the Alaska-Canada gas pipeline that Palin approved. And get ready for double-digit unemployment and inflation. I hope you like disco music, because the 1970s are back.

The only saving grace is mid-term elections. Congress has to get re-elected so they can’t very well screw things up too bad or it will be 94 all over again.

Get a clue “aa” – You want to blame the Republicans for what a Democratic-controlled House and Senate did? Bush is the best president in history, as history itself will judge. Obama is likely to choke once in office–just like Bob Rae did when he was running Ontario and just like Dalton McGuinty is doing now.

Interesting that the economy “in ruins” has near full employment and is still growing. Interesting that countries are electing more conservative leaders (Merkl, Sarkozy, Harper!). The facts beat “hope’n'change” hate-filled rhetoric everytime.

Migawd you are a doofus. The US is not becoming socialist. That is just silly. Republicans have destroyed the US over the past 8 years. Bush has left America weaker, massively in debt and an economy and banking system in ruins. Clearly there has to be a change. Where have you been the last 8 years. Bush is the worst president in history. Even McCain says so. Seriously, you want the status quo?
