360 Video

December 11th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Tech Goodies

This is cool.. a 360 video where you can mouse into and around the crowd… even go upside down.

“By using a Google Streetview-like camera, a system with six lenses, not as a photo but as a video camera, an all-encompassing picture is captured.

From the point where the images were recorded, the viewer can look in any direction, let his eyes wander through the crowd, or stare at the ground or the air, which makes viewing a video an experience without boundaries.”

Great for filming events and riots.

Speed Up Your Browsing With Google’s New Service

The droids we're googling for

If you hate that slow surfing experience, try Google’s new Public DNS service.

It’s easy to do if you know how to configure your router.. just change the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

You can get the long version instructions from Google.

Makes a real difference for me as Shaw’s DNS is not very fast.

Google and Michelle Obama

Google Runs Ads Over Racist Michelle Obama Image

Apparently, when you do an search for Michelle Obama, choose “images” instead of web results, some interesting things come up..

First, Google asks if you’d like to find “Related searches: michelle obama monkey”

And if you look to the top, you’ll notice the ad:

michelle-obama-beauty

You’d wonder why the fuss..
It’s because someone put up an image (since removed) of a doctored photo:

michelle-obama-offensive

Inside Google’s ad:

We apologize if you’ve had an upsetting experience using Google. We hope you understand our position regarding offensive results.

There’s a lot more like this in the results:

michelle Obama questionable image

michelle-obama-beautiful

They’ve even posted unflattering images of the first lady:

Fat Michelle Obama

It makes sense… I was always puzzled why the number one image that people come to my blog for using Google image search is:

obama Accorn and smoking

It’s odd that when you search George Bush Monkey, Google hasn’t run an ad… on the offensive meter, these are much worse.

But, it’s great to know that Google is out there looking after us.

Screw The Lift Lines.

Ken Blocks, DC Co-Founder has joined with Subaru to make the worlds fastest cat track operation automobile for back country.

This car opens a lot of new terrain for snowboarders, and a great way to avoid the lift lines…

Dubbed the TRAX STI, this is a new teaser video from the test session for the highly-modified, snow-ready (to say the least) car.

Maybe they can sell a retrofit?

Geocities Remembered

Yahoo! Closes GeoCities

The ones that started it all, a long time ago… Geocities… is dead. Now the net is a few billion pages lighter.

If you remember the good old days, back before MySpace, Geocities ruled.

Anyone could let the artist shine through with their easy to build websites.

This site is probably most representative of the best of Geocities.

Wired has a good farewell article.
