Poor David.

After spending a lifetime of scaring kids that the world is about to end, he has decided it’s best he no longer represents his foundation.

David acknowledges that the environmental movement has reached a dead end, saying: “I absolutely agree.” The federal government is hostile, and environmental agendas are being rolled back everywhere.

“I have reached a point in my life where I would like to consider myself an elder. I want to speak freely without fear that my words will be deemed too political, and harm the organization of which I am so proud. I am keenly aware that some governments, industries and special interest groups are working hard to silence us. They use threats to the Foundation’s charitable status in attempts to mute its powerful voice on issues that matter deeply to you and many other Canadians.

This bullying demonstrates how important it is to speak out.

The Foundation’s science-based, solutions-oriented research and educational work has enriched our democracy and reflected Canadian values for two decades. While not always happily received by governments or industrial interests, this work is strictly non-partisan, as required by the laws governing charities, and has made the Foundation one of the most trusted environmental voices in Canada.

Our opponents, however, are redoubling their efforts to marginalize the Foundation by getting at me, personally.”

I remember when David Suzuki wanted to jail political leaders for ignoring the science behind climate change. This type of rhetoric doesn’t make politicians too open to your cause.

A few of his better moments:

- His aggressive campaign against farmed salmon. “It’s poison!” David Suzuki told a conference in Toronto. “Phone your local hospitals and find out if farmed salmon is served to patients,” … In 2009, in the very same area where extinction due to sea lice was predicted, wild pink salmon returns were so good that commercial fishing took place. Now, the return of Fraser sockeye is the best in nearly 100 years.

- Thinks there are too many human beings, that our numbers over-burden planet Earth. Fathers five children.

- Twenty years ago, in It’s a Matter of Survival, you said we had fewer than 10 years to radically change our ways. If we didn’t, you said “civilization as we know it will cease to exist.” We’re still here.

- Said the forests which then covered a third of Germany would disappear by early this century due to acid rain. Over one third of Germany continues to be covered by forest?

- His scientific expertise is in fruit flies and that makes him a climate change expert.

Over the decades, Suzuki has preached that humanity is shortsighted, dangerous, andsuicidal. We’re stubborn, blind, incapable of grasping the significance of our actions, and in denial. According to David, if we don’t set aside our own understanding and embrace his overarching worldview we’ll all be very, very sorry.

Well, here’s a message for Dr. Suzuki: Don’t insult us. Don’t threaten. It’s abusive.

Thankfully, David’s carbon footprint is about to get really small… so, don’t let the door hit you a$$ on the way out.

“Being on Twitter is like being badgered by a drunk on a 24-hour bus ride,” Angus wrote in his manifesto on the Huffington Post.

“Twitter seems to be morphing into a bully pulpit for trolls. It is a technology that favours the flash mob. In England, the racist takeover of some Twitter feeds has resulted in people going to jail. The digital mob is no different from a street mob. It can be excitable, goodnatured or vicious, but don’t ever mistake the mob for a democracy.”

He joins a growing number of public figures who’ve decided they’ve had enough. Among them is Manchester City soccer player Micah Richards, who is black, and who abandoned Twitter because as a friend of his told a British newspaper: “In recent months, there’s been an increase in racist abuse from a small and depressing minority, and he decided enough was enough.”

The more we can get politicians off of Twitter, the better. Great work trolls.

Vancouver is piloting a program to house downtown eastside women in shipping containers – a new form of social housing.

The 320-square-foot units will be located on Alexander Street.

Built from 12 shipping containers stacked three high, giving each lady a bathroom, and a kitchen.

Atira executive director Janice Abbott says they will create nice, safe and affordable accommodations for women without a permanent home.

The city has already provided a building permit for the project. If all other approvals can be granted in the next few weeks, Abbott said, the development could be ready for tenants by some time in the summer. Six of the 12 units will be rented at the welfare rental subsidy rate of $375 per month.

Beats living on the street and at a cost of $85,000/unit, classifies as cheap housing here.

Please find below my suggestions for fixing the CANADIAN economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks that squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about Ten million people over 50 in the work force.  Pay them $2 million each with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Ten million job openings – unemployment fixed

2) They MUST buy a new Canadian car.   Ten million cars ordered – Car Industry fixed

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage. Housing Crisis fixed

4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university. Crime rate fixed

5) They MUST buy $100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week… And there’s your money back in duty/tax etc

It can’t get any easier than that!

Also: Let’s put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.

• This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
• They’d receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they’d receive money instead of paying it out.
• They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.
• A guard would check on them every hour and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.
• They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
• They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, and education.
• Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ’s and legal aid would be free, on request.
• Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.
• Each senior could have a TV, radio and daily phone calls.
• There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.
• The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week.  Live in a tiny room and pay $400.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Goondiwindi almost three years ago, right to the paddock where she slept in the feedlot at Bony Mountain? And, they even tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 125,000 illegal immigrants wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.
