Toxic Tarsands

Now that National Geographic has done an essay on the oilsands, Iggy, our new Liberal friend, has quickly come to our rescue.

While the Edmonton Sun calls the story a ” gruesome cover story“, Ignatieff defends oilsands as ‘world leader’… sort of.

Puzzling, to say the least, as the Liberals have used the oilsands as a lightening rod for their Green Shift plan and demonized Alberta for generations.

Elizabeth May must be choked.

First Ignatieff accuses the federal government of having “done nothing” to clean up the oilsands and describing it as barely sustainable. Par for the course so far.

Then he praises the industry as one that makes him proud.

“This is a huge industry. It employs Canadians from coast to coast. We have oil reserves that are going to last for the whole of the 21st century. We are where we are. We’ve got to clean it up and we’ve got to make it a sustainable place to work and live, not only for the aboriginal population, but for the workers who live there,” Ignatieff said.

“My concern is that, at the moment, it’s barely environmentally sustainable, and it’s barely socially sustainable. The Conservative government has done nothing about this. We need to move forward. But am I proud of this industry? You bet. It’s a world leader. We just need to make it better. But I don’t take lessons from the National Geographic.”

Not fooling us Iggy…

Here’s the reality:

Canada as a whole produces roughly two per cent of the world’s greenhouse gases. Of that amount, about 23 per cent is generated by the energy industry. That includes the oilsands.

That’s not a whole heck of a lot when you consider the daily greenhouse gas production of major polluting countries such as China, India, Mexico and, of course, the world’s No. 1 producer of greenhouse gases, the United States.

Suffice to say, the United States produces significantly more greenhouse gases in one day than the oilsands do in one year.

When the Americans realize that we are their main source of oil, and that the oil sands could replace Middle Eastern oil imports, they’ll come around. Despite the Democrats.

Funny how $40 oil changes things… not sure that it will change the feelings that Canada’s western provinces have for the Liberals though.

Keep trying Iggy. It’s fun to watch.

This is just another Liberal suck up, followed by some kind of wealth redistibution.
    Martin did it.
    Dion did it.
    Iffy just started the process.

    Liberals will run on a carbon tax to kill the oilsands;
OR, Liberals will run on Alberta (oil and gas) paying Quebec (hydro power) carbon credits.
    What ever Quebec wants.

Does Iffy think Western Canadians are gullible?

The Liberals are not electable if they can’t make at least a half decent showing in the West. They are desperate.

Two things need to happen to let the Libs trigger an election by bringing down the govt.

    1) polls show that they can get 30 seats in the West (mostly BC, but a few in Manitoba as well)

    2) Their party funds are at least partially replenished.

If and when those occur, we will have our next election.

Newly named Liberal Leader Ignatieff ready to form coalition
“I told caucus I will vote non-confidence in this government. I am prepared to enter into a coalition government if that is what the Governor General asks me to do,”
    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/12/10/ignatieff-caucus.html

‘He can sit on the sidelines and let Harper take sole ownership of the recession. As Ignatieff said Wednesday, “it’s his budget.”

He also has the government on a “a very short leash,” and can yank Harper’s chain in the spring or fall if the economy really goes in the tank. ‘

Yah yah yah , we love Iffy…NOT

How will Iffy screw the West?
    CONSTITUTIONAL TAKEOVER of the oilsands!

”Turns out Layton was a couple of weeks too late.
Liberal Leader Stephane Dion’s chief lieutenant, Michael Ignatieff, already took a tour of the tarsands.

And Ignatieff announced in his blog:
“I haven’t seen anything more exciting and troubling in my travels this year.”

Then Iggy let slip what the Ottawa Liberals have in mind if they win on Oct. 14.

“The federal government has an important role to play in regulating air quality, watersheds and wildlife,” Ignatieff fumed.

“But as far as I could learn, federal environmental authority is nowhere to be seen.”

Next he announced that Ottawa now has a “big role to play in getting this project right.”

Which is what Dion’s Green Shift – or Green “Shaft” if you are an Albertan – is really all about.

It’s a massive tax and apparent CONSTITUTIONAL TAKEOVER of Alberta’s energy resources – all in the dubious cause of saving the planet.”

To borrow from a certain NDPer…. I’m not calling Ignatieff a liar. Let’s just say I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him.

First off Alberta has OILSANDS not TARSANDS, CALIFORNIA does and NS the (TAR-PITS).
Without Alberta’s oil sands- canada cannot survive. Danny Williams has built a firewall around NFLD and has made it clear that he is not contributing a dime to the federal government. Charest has done the same, he too with BQ have build a firewall around Quebec. DON’T TOUCH DON’T ASK ROUTINE FROM BOTH PROVINCES.

Alberta oil sands feeds Quebec would you believe it and still they continue ‘to slap the hand that feeds them.’
Eventually it will come a time when ALBERTA has had enough of their rantings and will build a firewall just like NFLD and Quebec. No more money for Quebec or to the federal government regardless which political party is in government.

BC governments knows that all provinces must work closely together which is a good thing; unfortunately, the noise that comes from Quebec and NFLD have no intentions of taking part nor want to work along side us.
I am sure many of us out here in the west are fed-up with likes of DANNY WILLIAMS AND BQ AND CHAREST.
