Liberals Love Bending The Rules

December 9th, 2008 Posted in Canada Election

Maybe the Liberal Party has pushed things a little to far with their new version of democracy?

Their loyal base seems to be just a little put off by their recent shenanigans.

Happy Mothers Day!

From Saskboy:

The Liberals should not forget that they have found a magical cure to the curse of a delegated leadership convention. Sure, they had to bend a few rules to get to the point of installing Iggy as leader, but at least they saved the millions of dollars they don’t have.

Or from Jesse:

Sad day to be a Liberal!

I’ve paid membership fees for the past five years, donated to the LPC, to my riding association, and to leadership contestants.

What do I get for being a proud, hardworking Liberal? What do I get for campaigning tirelessly?

A leader thrust upon me.

What happened to MY VOTE?

What happened to my VERY basic expectation of having the right to choose the man/woman I feel most likely to bring the LPC back into government?

It’s a shame that Doug Ferguson and his other cohorts on the National Exec decided they knew better than myself and my 76 000 friends (who also paid membership fees to have a say).

Because I had no input, I quit.

Doug Ferguson, I will definitely not join the victory fund. Stop sending me emails asking for money, or I will mail you an envelope stuffed with my turd.

The Militant Liberal:

I usually go through live pretty depressed as it is. We are living in very conservative times. This development however has pushed me into absolute hopelessness and despair. One week ago we were on the verge of the victory, today the once great Liberal party is lead by a man further to the right than Harper. I know you all can’t see it. I’m tired of trying to explain it to you. The whole point of Harper shutting down the house was to end the coalition. Now you have given him just what he wants. I, obviously will be disengaging from Liblogs. The pain is just to much. The sighing almost never stops now. Congratulations Blue Liberals. You have won the soul of the party. Go enjoy your fascist future. Thankyou for ruining Canada for my son. Thanx for that.

The Stakes are Too High to Quibble

Now is the time for all good Liberals to put away petty internal quibbles and come together behind Michael Ignatieff. For starters, let’s stop calling him “Iggy.”

You missed his/her point. In our blind quest to obtain power we’ve cut out our membership but we will not obtain power unless we connect with our membership. If something as undemocratic as this happened in the Conservative Party there would be a revolt. In the Liberal Party the response is: Oh well, they’ve ignored us. Let’s unite and win the next election.

I almost feel sorry for them. Enjoy your new leader. And watch the far left run away..

To call me a “loyal base” of the Liberals would be pushing it, since I’m a Green.

I hope you’re enjoying yourself. I must take some issue with what you’re saying. Firstly, I hardly could be considered part of the “loyal base” of the Liberal party either. I am constantly critical of the Liberal party and even voted NDP despite my moniker in protest over the Afghan War. Secondly my lament which you published with such glee was about the fact that Ignatieff is leader not about how he became leader. But why quibble? I’m down so that is somewhat of a victory for you I guess. Like I said, enjoy. Just remember, your leader may succeed in ending the coalition but he does not come out of this looking good at all. (Ending parliament right after it starts to avoid being booted from office.) The threat of coalition at the very least has forced some real concessions from Harper and will produce more.

Just for a moment imagine the the CPC saying sorry we are going to ignore you ,our party faithful , because you understand we know what you want ,so be happy and send money. KABOOM! No more CPC. Liberals ,we will see . Not an endorsement to be PM ,for sure but lefties tend to like being told what is good for them so maybe they will not really care.

    The LPC has a grassroots?
Nah, as Saskboy and Militant show, they aren’t connected to the party. Infiltraters & persuaders, just like Boob Rae.

  5. Pat Says:

I think Harper has infiltrated the Liberal Party of Canada and is planting people in high places for the sole purpose of destroying the LPC.

Watch out, what’s that sound, Everybody look at what’s going down!!
