Bill visited Vancouver today.

Clinton had polite compliments for local politicians, praising Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan’s for his city’s record on sustainable building and alluding to B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell’s environmental policies.

“I know he’s taken some heat for his aggressive position against climate change,” Clinton said. “I believe it’ll be the greatest economic generator you could embrace.”

I guess he missed East Hastings on his way in and confirmed my suspicions… global warming scare mongering + carbon tax=$$$.

OMG: The Liberals Hidden Agenda

Now that he’s found out that the sun is behind global warming, Dion has walked away from the Liberal party’s only platform this election - The Green Shift Shaft. He’s even denying it was part of his campaign.

I had to laugh when the guardian of the left, the Globe & mail published this today..

When launching his carbon-tax scheme on June 19, Mr. Dion mentioned the term “Green Shift” 14 times. When Mr. Dion delivered a keynote speech to his caucus on Sept. 3, the number of Green Shift references had dropped to 10. By Sept. 11, Mr. Dion only mentioned Green Shift once during his main speech of the day. And by Sept. 18, the term “green shift” had disappeared completely from Mr. Dion’s only speech of the day.

Earlier today when quizzed about whether or not the carbon tax was a major part of his election platform, Mr. Dion replied, “You have said it was but never me.”

… So what has happened to Mr. Dion, defined by Liberals as a man of vision and courage for bringing the carbon tax forward? Was this a bit like Kyoto for him, not his dog but the treaty – when the hard work had to be done he gave up on it and it began to dwindle? Was the green shift luggage lost when the plane broke down earlier in the week?

Time to jump off the Rainbow warrior…

Now there’s a real hidden agenda to talk about.

What a gift to Harper.

Will Gas Prices Rise 12.9 Cents A Litre This Friday?

Giving it up for GAS

Liberal MP Dan McTeague says drivers in Toronto and Western Canada will face the largest one-day price increase ever seen this Friday, when pump prices could jump as much as 12.9 cents per litre.

If true, this means Toronto will go to the highest price ever - $1.37 a litre…

In Vancouver we haven’t dropped below $1.40 since oil hit $140/barrel. This is an indication of how a carbon tax will relate to a huge ripoff. BC now enjoys gas prices of at least 10-15 cents more than the rest of the country - thanks to our 2.4 cent carbon tax. Funny how that works.

The most incredible thing is how a  hurricane some 2,500+ miles from Canada can cause our gas to go up instantly - and although oil has dropped 30-50% since the peak, prices are still at a level of $130+/barrel.

Each time gas goes up it sets a new benchmark for pain. The oil companies then drop it a few cents when oil goes down, and then jack it again beyond this threshold on an uptick.

I can’t believe that this continues to go on - time to get serious about the collusion going on.

Canada’s Answer to Lipstick - Elizabeth May

The Green Party’s Elizabeth May finally got into the televised leader’s debates.

Let’s hope the Sarah Palin effect isn’t spilling over to in Canada.

Give her credit for getting Independent MP Blair Wilson - a former Liberal first elected in 2006 - to become a Green Party MP.  She now gets her shot to get heard… despite having a poll rating of 8% (they got a whopping 4.3% of the vote last election - making them the new Rhino party).

The interesting thing is the deal Elizabeth made with Dion not to field a  candidates in each others riding. Surprisingly, he didn’t join Layton in protesting her inclusion.

Any additional support she may get from the debates will come from the left and split the vote from those that want to crush Canadians with a new carbon tax…  helping the Conservative Party get their majority.

The good news is that no one will be watching.

Stephane Dion Drops 50%

Early election polls show Stephen Harper should get 183 seats in the 308-seat parliament, up from 127 seats won in the last election.

42% of voters feel Harper would make a better prime minister, while only 15% felt Dion would do a good job, well behind even Jack Layton of the New Democrats.

Stephane Dion calls Harper’s government “the most conservative government in our history”… he’s trying out the “I Hate Bush” strategy (one that will cost the Democrats the election in the US).

Harper has lowered taxes, lengthened mandatory criminal sentences and actually allocated money for family child care (something the left has been crying for for as long as I can remember). Considering that he has managed to fulfill the promises he made last election despite a hostile parliament… not a bad job.

Thanks to Stephane Dion’s attempt to make himself into Al Gore of the north, it should be a cake walk.

Stephane’s carbon tax plans makes you wonder who he is reaching out to. Even NDP Layton starting the week of campaigning attacking the oil sands - probably one of Canada’s biggest sources of future wealth. Real smart stuff.

The “silent majority” will decide this election - we’ve had enough of the Liberal and NDP strategy of environmental/carbon tax terrorism through taxation.

And just in time.

We’re facing a challenging economy is the very near future - hopefully Harper will promise even lower taxes to help us through it.

Will The West Matter? Canada’s Election

Now that the election has been called, will we even matter in the west?

There isn’t much to vote for unless you’re French or a lifetime NDPer.

Ontario and Quebec hold the decision, as usual, and hopefully Harper will get traction in Ontario.

The choice seems obvious when you look at the candidates:

NDP - Jack Layton leads a hopeless party - but somehow they keep hanging in there. The NDP plays the role of spoiler, and will probably split the Liberal votes.

Liberals - Stephane Dion has lost it already with his promise to tax the bejesus out of us with that lovely carbon tax scheme. The party is where the conservtives were - and needs to re-invent itself.

Conservatives - Harper should be a shoe-in, but the separatists in Quebec will split the vote. Like Vancouver, the French will always vote in a way to cause themselves the most grief.

We need a majority government that can take on the challenges we will be facing soon - with a declining economy and soon-to-be crashing housing market, Canada can’t play around with higher taxes and incompetent leadership.

Holding an election in concert with the US is a smart plan - hopefully Canadians will see we both share the same issues.

Just Call The Election, Steve…

Prime Minister Stephen Harper seemed almost certain to call a general election next week to decide who will guide Canada.

It’s a great idea.

Although the election and candidates will be about as exciting as watching lawn bowling, holding an election alongside of the US election would let Canadians in on the fun.

We might be able to get rid of Gilles Duceppe, leader of the separatist opposition Bloc Quebecois. I always wonder what would happen if a traitor ran in the US…

Jack Layton, leader of the leftist New Democratic Party, also needs to go. With no possible chance of ever getting elected, it’s a wonder how the NDP has survived all these years. Note that the Riders have only won a Grey Cup when Conservatives have been in power in Sask.

Liberal leader Stephane Dion has proposed a tax grab similar to the National Energy Program they blessed us with in the last economic collapse. This is good for at least 10% more votes for Harper.

It’s time for change - as Barack Hussein Obama would say.

Best of all, it’s time to trounce the Liberals before their wacky carbon tax plan can see the light of day.

Here’s a video for more information on how the election will be decided:

Need a $77,000 Pay Raise?

Gord Campbell’s Liberals showed their true Liberal roots this past week… slipping in a pay raise on a late Friday afternoon, so the media coverage would be muted by Monday.

For the better part, it worked.

It’s enough to make the average BC resident wish their was a Conservative party in the province.

Seems it takes a pay raise of 43% to “keep the brightest minds”. With decisions like this, one wonders if there are any bright minds in this government.

Liberals gave B.C. members of the legislature salary increases of 29% earlier. Front-line provincial government workers in B.C. won 2% raises this year.

Try to defend this when contract time time comes around.

With Health Care costs running at 50% of the provincial budget, one wonders where this money will all come from.

Maybe a Carbon Tax?
