Who Could Have Seen This Coming

A cartoon in the New York Post played off Monday’s rampage by a pet chimpanzee in Stamford, Connecticut, that left a woman severely mauled. Police ended up killing the chimp.
Sam Stein, a columnist for the site, wrote that “at its most benign, the cartoon suggests that the stimulus bill was so bad, monkeys may as well have written it.”
Al Sharpton called the New York Post’s cartoon “troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys.”
In a statement, Post Editor-in-Chief Col Allan said: “The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington’s efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist.”
So, in the future, there shall be no images of monkeys related to politics.
Although this didn’t seem to cause any outrage or concern in the past:

[...] There’s some silly cartoon floating around the internet today also, that says it depicts Barack Obama as a chimpanzee. Some people have gone off their rockers with accusations of racism and bigotry [cue Al Sharpton], but many seem to have missed the reference. Whatever the case, it seems people are still hung up on ancient history. A black President is now in office, and the one who was actually mocked as a “smirking chimp” for his entire term, is now gone. Let’s move on, folks. [...]
