Will The BC Liberals Gag Blogs?
As of this past weekend, we have to to register with the government before we speak out about any public issue for the next three months…
Not that I have the time or inclination to do so.
The BC Liberal Party have made BC resemble Venezuela – they’ve removed most of our rights, and enviro-taxed us into behaving like good comrades.
In BC, if the gag law doesn’t get you, our HRC surely will.
Bill 42 changes the definition of third party advertising to include “an advertising message that promotes or opposes, directly or indirectly, a registered political party… including an advertising message that takes a position on an issue with which a registered political party or candidate is associated.” Read the full text here. (if you can make any sense of it).
And Bill 42 limits any spending on public interest communication for a full three months before the election. Public advocacy organizations, environmental groups, unions and others will have their ability to print materials or buy advertising limited to $3,000 in a riding or $150,000 in total from February of this year to after May, 2009. That’s about enough to run an ad once in a local paper.
How stupid do they think BC voter’s are?
All I know is that the Liberals must go – the carbon tax they imposed on us is reason enough. I haven’t forgotten.
Any party that promises to remove it will get my vote.
(This political ad cost nothing… hope they don’t come for me.)

Answering your title question, No. At least that’s my understanding from item 59, section 228 of the Bill:
“‘election advertising’ … does not include
(a) the publication without charge of news, an editorial, an interview, a column, a letter, a debate, a speech or a commentary in a bona fide periodical publication or a radio or television program,
(b) the distribution of a book, or the promotion of the sale of a book, for no less than its commercial value, if the book was planned to be made available to the public regardless of whether there was to be an election,
(c) the transmission of a document directly by a person or a group to their members, employees or shareholders, or
(d) the transmission by an individual, on a non-commercial basis on the internet, or by telephone or text messaging, of his or her personal political views”
One would think that ‘d’ includes blogs.

The Premier of BC is not a Liberal ..he was a Conservative, before he ran as a Liberal. Was it Social Credit?

Ujhal Dosanj was NDP before he became a Liberal. BobRae was NDP before he became a Liberal. Scott Bryson , Belinda Stronach and and Garth Turner were all Conservatives [and rejected leadership applicants] before they became Liberals.
So, what point, exactly, was it that you were trying to make?

BTW. IMHO: I believe that this is exactly the kind of Hugo Chavez totalitarianism nanny-statism control menchanism that the Liberals (prov & Federal) Love.
